Earier today we reported that the Galaxy S2 is not launching today as was rumored. Just now Samsung Mobile sent us an invite to a media event on August 29 in New York. The invite is not revealing much, but it has a "II" on it. The II clearly hints to the Samsung Galaxy S2 and since the invite is from Samsung Mobile it is almost sure that the 29 marks the launch of the Galaxy S2 in the US. Now I just saw that the image of the invite flyer has actually "Galaxy_S_II" in the file name. So there is no doubt that the Galaxy S2 will be released on August 29.
Samsung said that a couple weeks ago that the Galaxy S2 would launch in August. That they would take this to the limit was not anticipated. If all four major carriers will launch the Galaxy S2 on August 29 is not clear yet. It might be just Verizon for starters.
At 8.9mm the Samsung Galaxy S2 is very thin. Features of the Samsung Galaxy S2 include a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor with a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display and an 8MP camera. Other features include Bluetooth 3.0, HSPA and NFC.
Samsung already sold over 5 million of the Galaxy S2 in Europe and Asia. The Galaxy S2 is expected to be released on all four major US carriers.
