In never really supported the rumors about Apple already releasing the iPad 3 this Fall. A new report today at Digitimes suggest though that Apple had a iPad 3 retina display planned for fall, but canceled it now. According to the report the yield rates for the cutting edge 9.7-inch display with 2,048x1,536px are too low. This would lead to very low supply of iPad 3 and increased costs for Apple.
Interestingly, the report mentions that other tablet makers are forced to delay same-level products. This information would suggest that other tablet vendors plan to release retina display tablets as well. Apparently Apple did not buy up the whole production of these new displays.
Digitimes also mentions that the production volume for the iPad 2 stays at 28 to 30 million units for the second half of 2011.
