News in the UK broke today on the Official Nintendo Magazine (via SlashGear) that Nintendo is releasing an updated Wii console for the holiday season. The new Wii drops GameCube support and stands now horizontally, getting rid of the vertical stand.
The new Wii console will be sold in a new value bundle with Wii Party and Wii Sports. Of course a Wiimote and a Nunchuck are part of the package. Right now the Wii Mario Console Bundle sells for $149.99. We have already predicted that the Wii console will drop to $99 during Black Friday 2011. This is even more feasible with this new streamlined Nintendo Wii console.
Nintendo is going to squeeze the hyper successful Wii as hard as possible this Fall. In 2012 Nintendo will roll-out the new Wii U. Do not expect the Wii to disappear though in 2012. I am still not sold on the Wii U and if it will have the appeal to beat Wii sales.
