Netbooks are now more or less a niche product in the PC market. There is still though innovation going on for netbooks. I am most excited about the $199 Asus Eee PC X101 running MeeGo that is supposed to go on sale next month. Below the price-point of $200 is where netbooks can make the biggest impact. This is where they came from and where their success is originating. I am not a fan of the high-end netbooks with prices hitting even $500.
The high-end netbooks are though also getting a make-over this fall. Intel is supposed to release the Cedar Trail-M platform featuring the Atom N2800 and Atom N2600 CPUs. Cedar Trail-M is replacing the Atom N475 adn N455 CPUs. Digitimes reports today that Intel has to delay the roll-out of the Cedar Trail-M platform because of graphics driver issues. Planned was September and now the launch is supposed in November. I do not know if that means that netbook makers will miss the crucial holiday shopping season with Cedar Trail-M netbooks.
The report also mentions that the new Atom D2700 and D2500 nettop CPUs are also delayed to November.
