The $99.99 TouchPad Fire sale launched on Saturday and as far as I can tell, the HP Tablet is sold out online at this price.

On Saturday HP launched the fire sale of the TouchPad. The 16GB TouchPad got slashed to $99.99 and the 32GB model to $149.99. The demand for the webOS based TouchPad sky rocketed by that. To hunt down and online store carrying the $99.99 TouchPad proofed quickly very difficult. I4U News readers who spotted our report on Sunday that Best Buy started to sell the TouchPad despite and earlier statement not to join the fire sale had a good chance to get their hands on one.

Is the $99 HP Tablet sold out by now? Not necessarily. I start to spot retailers that seem to have held back inventory and charge more than the $99.99 price set by HP. TigerDirect for instance charged $107 instead of $99.99 today and an extra $7 for shipping (sold out by now). There is still a chance to find deals that are close to the $99.99 deal, but time is running.

Of course there might be also still a chance to find the TouchPad in retail stores, but I start to doubt that. Depending how many TouchPads have been flooded in the channel there might also some big distributors get into the game and turn around a little profit by buying up inventory and resell them at higher prices in the next days.

The HP Store also states that the are temporarily out of inventory. This would mean there is more stock of TouchPads somewhere. We will keep you posted if we find a source for the $99 HP Tablet.

Why the HP TouchPad at $99.99 is a great deal:
For under $100 the HP TouchPad is by far the best tablet deal available right now. If you need a tablet to check email and surf the web the HP TouchPad is more than you need. The only down-side is that the app eco-system is likely to die out. If you are lucky though there is an app future for your $99 Tablet. HP promises to keep webOS alive and also the webOS app eco-system you actually won sort of the lottery. Clearly the HP TouchPad is not the hottest hardware, but the $99.99 price is making it a killer tablet deal.
