$99 TouchPad to be back in Stock at HP Store Soon

The $99 HP Tablet has taken consumers by storm since it went on sale on Saturday. As reported the HP online store sold the discontinued webOS Tabet for $99.99 on Saturday and very quickly sold out. Other retailers like Best Buy followed. By Monday most stores had sold out or increased the prices. There is new hope that you can still get your hands on this bargain tablet that soon might also be able to run Android. The HP Online Store has changed the supply status for the 16GB and 32GB TouchPad to "Coming soon, Please check back soon."

My guess is that HP still has TouchPads in their warehouses and in transit from Asian manufacturers. So bookmark this HP Store page and check often.

Update:
It is August 25 and now the HP Store marks the $99 TouchPad and $149 TouchPad as sold out. The new batch of TouchPad sold out within hours late yesterday.

HP TouchPad Specs

  • 16GB or 32GB internal storage
  • 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core APQ8060 processor
  • 9.7" diagonal LED backlit touch display with high-gloss finish, scratch-resistant coating
  • Front-facing 1.3MP camera and digital microphone for video chat
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless
  • Beats audio
  • Wireless charging with HP Touchstone (sold separately)

Why the $99 HP Tablet is a great deal:
For under $100 the HP TouchPad is by far the best tablet deal available right now. If you need a tablet to check email and surf the web the HP TouchPad is more than you need. The only down-side is that the app eco-system is likely to die out. If you are lucky though, and HP promises to keep webOS alive and also the webOS app eco-system then you actually sort of won the lottery. Clearly the HP TouchPad is not the hottest hardware, but the $99.99 price makes it a killer tablet deal. In addition there are projects underway that port Android to the HP TouchPad.
