New report from the supply chain dismisses larger screen rumors for iPhone 5.
As Hurricane Irene is behind us lets put our attention back on the upcoming iPhone 5 from Apple. Taiwanese supply chain news site Digitimes kicks of the Apple rumor mill this week with an report about the iPhone 5 screen size. As listed in our iPhone 5 Specs we expected so far to see a new larger screen used in the iPhone 5. The new report though says that the iPhone 5 screen size stays below 4-inches. The quoted source sees Apple to adopt a 3.5-3.7-inch screen with a new design that enables a design closer to an edge-to-edge screen. I could imagine that Apple stays below 4-inches to keep the phone as narrow as possible. Apple will also retain the Retina resolution, which also limits the choices for screen-sizes.

The report also confirms rumors that Apple drops the glass back panel and uses a metal chassis like on the iPad 2.
We still expect the iPhone 5 to have an A5 CPU, 8MP camera and maybe a new design. The rumors that we actually could see an iPhone 5 and a cheaper iPhone 4S are also still alive. Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone 5 in September. The iPhone 5 sales launch would be in early October based in the most recent rumors.
