I just reserved the iPhone 5 at German Telekom

The iPhone 5 is near. We do not know any official details about the iPhone 5, but German Telekom already allows customers to reserve the next iPhone. Focus.de reported today that the Telekom allows customers to reserve an iPhone 5 for new customers and contract extenders. I just got off the phone with German Telekom and they indeed recorded my reservation for the iPhone 5. What happens is that I will get a call from them at the launch of the iPhone 5 to complete the iPhone 5 order.

This is not really a pre-order of the iPhone 5. It is just a reservation that also will not guarantee that I will get an iPhone 5 at launch. Supply will again outstrip demand. At least now I could do something that makes it more likely that I get an iPhone 5 on launch day.

This is a pretty cool move from German Telekom. It will be interesting to see if other carriers around the globe will now also allow iPhone 5 reservations. Current rumors point to an iPhone 5 sales launch in October. A new rumor over the weekend says that Best Buy might launch pre-sales of the iPhone 5 as early as this week.
