Google is supposed to launch Ice Cream Sandwich in October / November according to a statement of Eric Schmidt last week. Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to unify the UI of tablets and smartphones. Beyond that we do not know that much about this release yet. It might actually be not that exciting.
ThisIsMyNext reports now that Google very likely will call the next Android release Jelly Bean. They also heard that "game-changing stuff" planned for Ice Cream Sandwich has been pushed to Jelly Bean.
At this point we do not know if Google is able to counter what Apple is launching with iOS 5 and the iCloud in October. Our current expectation is that the iPhone 5 along with iOS 5 and iCloud get launched in October. The announcement should actually come in the next two weeks.
