I was monitoring Amazon for the last months over the availability of the new Asus X101 MeeGo netbook. Now it is here. Amazon is selling the black Asus X101-EU17-BK 10.1-inch netbook for $230.55. This is the new MeeGo running low-cost netbook from Asus that goes back to the netbook roots: Cheap portable computing that just works. Asus announced the X101 MeeGo netbook in May. Back then the company said the price is below $200. Amazon is though charging $230.55 for it. What is up with that? The white Asus X1010-EU17-WT is listed for $199.99, but is only available for pre-order without a shipping date.

Until we get an answer on this, the specifications of the Asus X101 MeeGo netbook include Intel Atom N435 (1.33Ghz), 8GB SSD, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 0.3MP camera, 2USB ports, 10.1-inch screen with 1,024x600px, Wifi 802.11n, multi-touch trackpad, and a 3-Cell battery. The X101 is 0.68-inch thin and weighs 2.03lbs.

Asus and Amazon should not fool around with the pricing here. At $199.99 I would recommend the Asus X101. The low price makes it worth to take the risk on getting an unproven MeeGo netbook.
