Amazon has invited to a press conference today at 10am in New York. At this time we finally will know how dangerous the Amazon tablet is going to be for the Apple iPad. Amazon is supposed to unveil a 7-inch bargain tablet called Kindle Fire. The rumors are now leaning towards that the first Amazon tablet is a glorified ebook reader in color based on the RIM Playbook design. Apparently Amazon needed a short cut to get to the market with a tablet this fall and used the same ODM (Quanta) as RIM did. I am not quite sure though if that rumor is true. We recently reported that Quanta has fired employees on the PlayBook production lines. If Amazon indeed based their first tablet more or less on the PlayBook than why would Quanta cut the production lines?

Either way, new rumors point to a complete new Kindle Fire tablet to arrive in Q1 2012. We heard early on rumors that Amazon is actually planning to release two tablets. gdgt reports that the new Amazon Tablet would already arrive in Q1 2012. Amazon is supposed also seeing that tablet as the winning horse. If the timing is correct than the 2012 Amazon Tablet will go heads on against the new Apple iPad 3, expected in Sprint of 2012.

This is an exciting day for the tablet market. Can Amazon deliver the netbook of tablets? Will they offer a tablet with the essential functions for a price that is below $250? We will cover the Kindle Fire developments as they happen. Come back later today.
