The Indian project to build an ultra-low cost computer has supposedly now the final release date. It was supposed to come out in Summer. The Indian government project started out in 2009 with the idea of building a $10 laptop. Last year they changed plans to build a $35 Tablet. Now Times of India reports that the makers of the $35 Tablet say it will go on sale in December - Merry Christmas!
The 7-inch tablet runs Android and it will have 256 MB of RAM, a 2GB SD memory card, a 32 GB expandable memory slot and two USB ports.
I still recommend to get the $199 Amazon Fire and not wait for this Indian invention. The $35 tablet is a noble project to bring computing to poor people, especially kids. I hope it finally takes off. For you media consumers the Amazon Fire is the best deal in town.
