Apple has announced to release iOS 5 and the iCloud today on October 12. As of now (11:30am ET) nothing is here. There are small things going on like updates to the iCloud.com site, that actually fooled me in the morning that the iCloud would actually already be live, but Apple did not flip the big switch yet. There are small things that got already released like Newsstand and Find My Friends apps. Both apps only work with iOS 5. Unless you are a developer or got your iPhone 4S early, this does not do anything for you.
So when is Apple comfortable to release iOS 5 and iCloud today? Maybe after lunch in California. After the operations guys downed some Sushi the party could start. This is in about 3-4 hours from today.
Update:
The wait is over. Apple has released iOS 5. Go to iTunes and check for Updates to trigger the install.
