What has Apollo to do with Mango? Apparently Microsoft's Windows Phone OS team has not thought their codenames through. Update: Daniel Marshall points out in the comments below that all Windows codenames end with a long O sound. That is what they have in common. Thanks! Either way, Engadget reports that Michael Halbherr, Nokia EVP for Location and Commerce that Microsoft will release the next big Windows Phone OS update mid-2012. Apollo is supposed a "very different game" to Mango. It is very likely that Microsoft is syncing the Windows Phone OS with the upcoming Windows 8 release.
Apollo is supposed to include NFC support and voice control. Other details are still not known. Until mid-2012 we will know if actually the whole gamble on Windows Phone OS paid off for Nokia.
