Thanksgiving Day is for Shopping at Low-End Stores

There is a lot of controversy around Black Friday Stores opening at midnight and mess up the Thanksgiving Holiday for retail employees and consumers. There are though already many stores that actually have open on Thanksgiving Day. As this Reuters report points out, these are lower end stores catering to customers with a tight budget.

Kmart will for instance be open on Thanksgiving Day. The do this already the 20th year in a row. Of course Walmart is also open. Walmart is not closing between Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday to avoid stampedes when the doors open for the Walmart Black Friday Sale.

Other stores open on Thanksgiving Day are Gap and Old Navy.

My recommendation is though to shop online on Thanksgiving Day as most retailers will launch their Black Friday Sales online at midnight Thanksgiving Day.
