The iPhone rumor mill starts to slowly turn again after the release of the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5 is next and is already rumored to be an LTE iPhone. Now iLounge got some information from their most reliable source about Apple's 2012 plans for the iPhone 5 and iPad 3.
According to the source the iPhone 5 is still in engineering phase and slated for a summer launch (I do not think so, will be again Fall). The new 2012 iPhone 5 will have besides LTE a 4-inch display and a is 8mm longer. It will not have a tear drop shape, but will have a metal back, probably aluminum. Apple's main problem is to make the battery life become acceptable with LTE. This is an issue all LTE phones struggle with.
For the iPad 3, the iLounge source has this to share. The iPad 3 will be slightly thicker by 0.7mm to house the new Retina Display with its twin light bar system. The release of the iPad 3 is as expected in Spring (March). The unveiling could already take place in January.
Apple needs to keep up the excitement for the iPhone and iPad for 2012 to keep increasing their sales momentum. Especially for tablets the market is changing rapidly with the new low-cost Kindle Fire and B&N Nook Tablet. Depending on how successful these budget tablets are this fall, Apple needs to innovate faster for the iPad to stay ahead.
