If you have been into cars for long, you will recall the Acura NSX that was taken out of production back in 2005. This mid-engine lightweight supercar came out of Japan to challenge the European exotics that dominated the market. There are more supercars from Japan today than there were in the heyday of the NSX.
Acura is set to see the NSX return for the grave with three new car debuting at the Detroit auto show. The new car will be similar in philosophy to the original NSX with a mid-engine design and V6 power. The car will differ significantly though with a new hybrid design and all wheel drive. That AWD system is very interesting sounding as well.
The design of the AWD system will allow for more power to be sent to the outside wheels to help the car corner better. The hybrid power will use multiple motors that are controlled by the cars computer. You can bet that this car will be more about performance than efficiency. Porsche already uses a hybrid system in some of its race cars called KERS that is for performance. The Acura Advanced Sports Concept is the vehicle pictured here and is thought to have some hints at the style of the new NSX.
