Acer is set to streamline its operations and focus only on the best products it has reports DigiTimes. The chairman of Acer, JT Wang, has announced that the company will be cutting its product line down significantly in 2012. According to Wang, the existing product line will be cut down by 2/3 of the size it is today.
I would bet with the netbook still falling from grace, those will be some of the most noticeable casualties of the cut back. I would also wager that some of the underperforming Android tablets and notebooks would be cut as well.
With many firms focusing on tablets and Ultrabooks I expect that will factor big in the Acer line after the cut back. Acer claims that the cut back will not affect outsourcing volumes to upstream ODMs. I'd like to see how they are going to cut their line by that much and still maintain the same upstream load.
