Rumors are flying today that come March or April of 2012 we could have a new competitor on the Android tablet market to fight the Kindle Fire and the iPad. We have heard rumors in the past that Google was going to get into the tablet war directly with a tablet to directly complete with the Fire. Rumors are now point at that tablet being only months away.
AppleInsider reports that the rumors say March or April is when the tablet will land. According to the rumors, the Google offering will have a 7-inch screen and will sell for under the $199 price point that Amazon targets with the Fire, but is not to be confused with the new 7-inch Google Tablet T-Mobile offers. Google has previously said it was working on a tablet "of the utmost quality."
High quality and under $199 doesn't really seem to go together. Google could be looking at making that up with volume though. A 7-inch $149 tablet that runs Android 4.0 and has full Android Market access would be insanely popular with people wanting a tablet on the cheap. If anyone can pull this off, Google can.
