CES 2012: PlayStation Vita 3G Pricing Announced

AT&T has just revealed how much it will cost to access data service on your PlayStation Vita.

For $15, users will have access to 250 MB of data per month, while $25 will net them a 2 GB monthly allowance. The latter should be more than enough to cover the pint-sized downloadable games and non-data-intensive online multiplayer features.

AT&T was announced as the exclusive mobile data provider for the 3G version of the Vita last year during the annual E3 trade show.

When Sony spokesman Kaz Hirai revealed that 3G service on the PS Vita would only be available through AT&T, there was a remarkable negative reaction of groans and boos from the audience. Even Mr. Hirai seemed to acknowledge the universal hatred toward AT&T, but had to remain faithful to the company.

No doubt AT&T provided Sony with some sort of financial incentive to be the exclusive 3G service provider.

For those who would prefer to use Wi-Fi only, there will also be cheaper versions of the PS Vita that have no 3G radios. The handheld, which goes on sale on February 22, ranges in price from $250 to $300 depending on the model.
