Earlier we reported that the iPad 3 announcement is pretty much set to be on March 7. Now the Wall Street Journal chimes in with their own iPad 3 rumor saying that 4G LTE iPad 3 tablets are coming from AT&T and Verizon.
4G LTE iPads make a lot of sense for AT&T and Verizon to push their next generation network adoption, but does it make sense for Apple at this point? LTE coverage is still limited and Apple is a global company. LTE networks in Europe are using for some reason other frequencies. Unless a chip maker has managed to build a universal LTE chip it is going to be a mess for Apple.
What I can imagine though is that AT&T and Verizon pay a huge pile of money to Apple to offer 4G iPad 3 tablets. 4G LTE is the future for carriers, but adoption is not fast enough. Marketing 4G with the new iPad 3 would be perfect for them.
