Earlier this week, website The Daily offered up some images and some detail on what it claimed to be a demonstration of Office for the iPad from a Microsoft employee. Microsoft has reportedly submitted Office to Apple to be approved for the iPad, which is a really big deal to a lot of iPad users. The images looked official and everything seemed to be on the up and up until Microsoft flatly denied the rumor.
It's worth noting that as is typical for PR types, the Microsoft rep never specifically came out and said Microsoft wasn't working on office for the iPad. I think Office would sell like crazy for the iPad, there are a lot of professional users out there that would love to have a real native app from Microsoft on the iPad. Microsoft apparently went so far as to say the screen shots used with the story were fake.
The Daily editor Peter Ha took to Twitter to send the publication saying that they didn't fabricate any of images in the story and that the app was demoed to them by someone from Microsoft. What do you think about this? Office is already on the Mac and we know Microsoft is working on porting Office to ARM-based systems, which would clearly seem to indicate it would come to the iPad.
