Bonobo Chat Tablet enables Apes to Talk to Us

Bonobo Chat is most likely the weirdest project you can support on KickStarter.

The Bonobo Hope Great Ape Trust Sanctuary has posted a project on KickStarter to develop a chat app for their great Apes to communicate more efficiently with humans. The bonobos already know a visual lexigram of about 300 words. Right now they use a large touch screen keyboard. The Bonobo Chat project will give the apes a personal tablet they can carry around and use to communicate with people.

To make it even crazier, the bonobo chat app is supposed to get hooked up to a remote presence robot the apes can control. The apes could play chase games with visitors of the sanctuary without leaving their cozy cages.
