Data suggests That Android Has Only Made $550 Million since 2008

Google and Oracle have been fighting in court for a long time now. Recently Google provided Oracle with a bunch of documents as part of a settlement offer to end the legal war. That data gives insight into how successful Google has been with Android operating system.

According to the documents between 2008 and into 2011 Android generated less than $550 million in revenue. The part that confuses me is with android being an open source and freely given operating system, I'm rather surprised it generated that much revenue.
