Who needs venture capital? Nobody, if you can convince the crowd to fund your company and buy your product before it is on the market. The Pebble smartphone companion watch just broke the funding record on kickstarter and is now at $3,39 million from 23,710 backers. The initial goal was just $100,000.
The guys behind the Pebble have already made smart watches and that seems to be a big factor for backers that there is a track record of making a working product.
The Pebble watch can be customized with apps and connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth. There is already a developer SDK to create apps for the Pebble. The apps are the really cool aspect of Pebble.
Pebble runs on an ARM CPU and the battery lasts for 7 days.
Overall Pebble seems to be the first real useful smart watch. Watch the demo video for Pebble below and you can back the Pebble on Kickstarter here .
The Pebble Watch is getting dramatic support on Kickstarter. The smart watch has now raised over $7 million and the funding period is still open another two weeks. Via Kickstarter.
