June 22 delivers start!
Recently a rumor surfaced claiming that Tesla might be able to deliver its Model S electric vehicle early. The company was said to have finished crash testing early and was able to move directly into full production. Tesla has officially announced that it will begin custom deliveries for the Model S on June 22. That is a few weeks before the original delivery estimate.
Delivering the car early is a very big deal for Tesla because the company has a huge number of pre-orders in hand and the vehicle is expected to contribute significantly the company's bottom line this year. The company is also talking about some of the features of the car such as the ability to customize the regenerative braking. The regenerative braking can be increased to simulate engine braking seen in a normal vehicle, or turned off altogether to allow the car coast for longer distances. Tesla is also talking about adjustable steering feel with three settings, which sounds virtually identical to what other automakers are already doing.
