Word surfaced today that Fiat will be constructing a new two-seat, rear wheel drive roadster for Mazda and Alfa Romeo. The car will be based on the Mazda Miata MX-5 and production for Alfa Romeo will begin in 2015. This marks the first deal between Mazda and the European automaker. Mazda was previously in a deal with Ford Motor Company that ended last year.
Fiat is using the deal to help improve its presence in Asia and the deal will give Alpha Romeo a new sports car for its lineup. Alfa Romeo is set to re-launch in the US next year. The brand has been gone from the US market for many years.
