I think the fact that RIM is ready to layoff an additional 2000 workers from its 16,500 employee workforce will come as no surprise. RIM has been having a very hard time competing in the smartphone market as government, enterprise, and general consumers are all abandoning the BlackBerry smartphones in favor of Android and iPhone devices.
Sources say that at least 2000 workers will be eliminated globally. The source also tips the layoff is planned for Friday, June 1, which is a day before the end of its first fiscal quarter for the year. Another source claims as many 6000 people will be let go and that the cuts will hit legal, marketing, sales, operations, and HR within the company.
