If you enjoy watching stars and planets as they crossed the night time or daytime sky as the case may be, you want to keep an eye out next Tuesday. Venus will be transiting the sun, which means the planet is passing between the Earth and the sun.
Venus will appear as a black dot on the surface of the sun, assuming you have a special glasses needed to view the sun without hurting your eyes. The last time Venus transited the sun was in 2004, which is when this photograph was taken. This will be the last time Venus will transit the Sun for over 100 years. The next transit will be 2117, and most of us will be dead.
