Microsoft seems to attacking the Apple iPad from the bottom and the top. Today at 3:30pm the media is summoned to a surprise event in Los Angeles. Microsoft is unveiling something. So far Microsoft for a change was able to keep things super secret.
Last week we carried a rumor that Microsoft would unveil a Windows 8 tablet. TechCrunch is now reporting that the tablet will be more a eReader with multimedia capabilities. The new Microsoft XPad would be able to access Xbox Live content and work with Barnes & Noble's eBook platform. The Microsoft XPad (my guess of the name) would be directly competing with the Amazon Kindle Fire and run on Windows 8 RT.
It looks like that Microsoft will finally be able to offer a complete media ecosystem for Windows devices. This is a big step to catch up to Apple's unified media platform.
