The reality of the Microsoft Surface unveiling slowly kicks in for PC vendors. Microsoft's partners have pretty much been surprised by Microsoft's entry into the hardware business. According to Digitimes Acer's Stan Shih has a interesting take on the Microsoft Surface.
Shih says that Microsoft has no real intention to sell own-brand tablet PCs and the offering is an ploy to boost adoption of Windows 8. That is an interesting view. My take is that Microsoft wanted to stir things up and get Windows 8 a cool hardware image to compete with Apple. I assume Microsoft will take a wait and see approach on what its partners will do. LG already said to sideline tablet development. If others follow than Microsoft is killing the Surface right away. After all Microsoft is a software company. The best thing that can happen is that PC Vendors trump the Surface with even cooler hardware.
