Windows Phone 8 unveiled

Microsoft took the wraps off Windows Phone 8, which is coming this fall. Windows Phone 8 is completely new and shares Windows 8 code base.

This is huge. Microsoft is rolling out Windows 8 across PCs, Laptops, tablets and phones. One OS for all devices. This could help motivating developers to make tons of apps as they can easily make them work on all types of Windows 8 devices. I am sure though, that in detail it will be not pain free.

Windows Phone 8 also brings support for NFC, MicroSD card support, two resolution support, VOIP, new start screen and Multi-core CPU support. Microsoft did not reveal all, but is this enough to catch up with the iPhone and Android devices? In the context of the Windows 8 roll-out it might well be enough to push Windows Phone sales, if all devices play nice with each other offering consumers a single User experience across all Windows devices.
