A new project is on Kickstarter called the Knut that has landed all the backers it needs to come to reality. The product is a Wi-Fi enabled sensor that works in cooperation with an app available for the iPhone and Android devices as well as computers. The Wi-Fi enabled device can hook different sensors for monitoring all sorts of things from the temperature in your home or even an aquarium to humidity.
The sensor can even detect things such as when someone opens the door to your refrigerator or the amount of vibration a package you ship is subjected to. You can even use it to remind yourself to water houseplants. The app will graph the data and alert you to important changes the sensor notices. The Knut and its app are expected to ship in September and if you want to get your hands on one the first 200 are going for a pledge of $80 or more.
