iPad mini rumors get pushed to the next level by Bloomberg.
The iPad mini rumors are floating around already since a several months. Today on July 4th, Bloomberg reports that a smaller, cheaper iPad will come by year-end according to two people with knowledge of the plans.
The new iPad mini would have a screen-size that is between 7 and 8 inches. We carried several times reports that talk about a 7.85-inch screen. Just the other day we carried a rumor from China that said that there is a new iPad coming this summer with IGZO display. I already pointed out then that the rumor might be about the smaller iPad.
It is nothing new for Apple to release smaller and cheaper models of a product category. Just look at the iPod. What never came was an iPhone mini, but the market is also not going in that direction. Smartphones are actually getting bigger right now.
In the tablet market the iPad competitors only get a foothold right now with the sub-$200 7-inch tablets. It is clear that Apple will need to stop that with a smaller and cheaper iPad.
