I can certainly understand if the fact that BlackBerry App World has racked up 3 billion downloads since launch comes as a surprise. RIM's BlackBerry smartphones are seeing popularity plummet in the face of competition from the iPhone and Android devices. RIM says that the rate of downloads is actually increasing.
RIM says that it had an average 2.5 million downloads each day to reach the 3 billion mark. It took 786 days to reach 1 billion downloads, 210 additional days to reach 2 billion downloads, and 176 days more to reach 3 billion downloads.
