RIM CEO Throsten Heins has stated that his company's next-generation operating system, BlackBerry 10, is in the final stages of testing. He also noted that the company would soon be ready to license the operating system to other manufacturers. RIM expects to have smartphones using the operating system on the market by early 2013.
RIM is now considering how other companies might be able to use BlackBerry 10 and a range of products. The new operating system could be RIMs last chance to gain market share in the smartphone realm and is built on QNX.
