A new rumor posted by Engadget says that Microsoft will sell the Windows 8 RT Surface tablet for $199. This would certainly stir things up, but is it reasonable? Digitimes reports today that notebook vendors would stop developing Windows 8 RT tablets if Microsoft would sell their Surface Tablet for $199.

The $199 price would only be possible with subsidies. Microsoft could afford to sell the tablets under cost as they have the eco system to make money done the road from media purchases and gaming.
