Kindle Fire HD unveiled

Update: Full details of the Amazon Kindle Fire HD.

Amazon unveiled a new $159 Kindle Fire but also a new 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD that can compete with the Apple iPad. The Kindle Fire HD runs on the TI OMAP 4470 CPU that competes with the Tegra 3. Amazon also put Dolby Digital Plus sound with two speakers in the Kindle Fire HD. The Kindle Fire HD has two Wi-Fi antennas on the 5Ghz band improving connectivity.

With MIMO Amazon improves the Wi-fi reception on the Kindle Fire HD even more making it 41% faster than the Wi-Fi on the Apple iPad 3.

The Kindle Fire HD has some cool features for parents limiting app and video time for different profiles. 

The Kindle Fire HD will start with 16GB storage like the iPad. The Kindle Fire HD comes in 7-inch and 8.9-inch model. The 7-inch sells for $199 and the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD sells for $299.
