Windows 8 is seen to have a chance to take on Android and Apple tablets. Especially the Microsoft Surface tablets have consumers excited. The only spoiler could be the price. If a leaked Asus slide is legit than Windows 8 tablets are doomed. The Asus Vivo Tab RT TF600T has a starting price of $599 according to a slide ZDNet has published. Mind you this tablet runs Windows 8 RT and not full Windows 8. The Asus Windows 8 tablet Vivo Tab TF810C starts at $799. The dual display Asus Taichi has a price tag of $1,299.
I do not mind that Asus prices the Taichi at over $1,000. This is a novelty product without mass market appeal. It is though not reasonable to have the entry-level Windows 8 RT tablet to have a higher price than the cheapest iPad 3.
I hope for Asus that these prices are not final. We are also still waiting for the Microsoft Surface pricing.
