We heard rumors about an Apple Online Radio service a while back already. Now Bloomberg reports that people with knowledge of negotiations between Apple and music labels said that the Apple Online Radio comes 2013.
The service would be advertising supported and more flexible than Pandora. Apple would release special apps for the iPhone and iPad to use the service. This could be a nice service, but I think what Apple tries to do here is to find ways to advertise to mobile users. It is not so much about the music, but about finding ways to monetize the growing mobile platform. If online radio can play a big part in mobile advertising remains to be seen.
Pandora's stock meanwhile had a big loss yesterday after Bloomberg broke the rumor report. The stock fell 12%.
