The iPad mini was unveiled last week. Apple tried hard to make us understand why the iPad mini has a price of $329 and not $199 like the bargain 7-inch tablets from Google and Amazon. The iPad mini as Amazon points out grinning has inferior hardware specifications when compared to the Amazon Kindle HD. The biggest issue is the low screen resolution. The lack of Retina Display is the big issue basically all tech pundits point out in their iPad mini reviews. The problem here is that all tech pundits have seen the iPad with Retina display. There is no way to go back to lower resolution after spending time with a Retina display. Apple should have better skipped the pundit reviews this time.
It was clear to me after the iPad mini unveiling that Apple is playing the usual game of releasing a first version of a new product with compromise on hardware. The best example for that strategy is the first iPhone. It only had GSM no 3G. In 2013 Apple will for sure release the iPad mini with a Retina Display. Should you wait until then? It really depends why you want a 7 or 7.9-inch tablet. If you want a real versatile tool that is stylish, user friendly and used heavily than the iPad mini is sure the best choice. If you just want to consume media then get the bargain Kindle Fire HD for $199. You can buy a ton of media for the $129 you saved.
