It's a damn good time to be an Apple stock-holder. This weekend marks the day the iPad finally goes on sale, and Electronista reports that iSuppli has just sent out a new iPad sales estimate today. Analysts now believe that “early adopters” and people who fall in love with the iPad will be numerous enough to sell millions of the devices.

They've estimated 7.1 million sales of the iPad in 2010, with another 14.4 million sales over the course of 2011. The iPad is predicted to hit 20.1 million sales in 2012. Sales like that would give Apple the first ever mainstream tablet. The question is; will the opening of the industry benefit anyone but Apple, or will they lock the iPad down into the consumer consciousness?
The competition took years to catch up with the iPhone because of the massive head start Apple had in designing smartphones consumers wanted to use. They have less of a lead in the tablet market, with a slew of impressive iPad killers due out in the near future. At the very least, Apple can look forward to some stiff resistance later this year.
