Ericsson has announced that it has filed a patent infringement suit against Samsung in the US federal court in the Eastern District of Texas. The particular court that Ericsson has picked to hear the suit is known for siding with patent holders, and has become the go to courtroom for patent battles in the United States. Samsung says that Ericsson is asking for licensing fees are too high.
However, Ericsson says that it has extended Samsung FRAND licensing terms and that Samsung's competitors have agreed to the same terms in the past. It's unclear exactly when this case will go to court, and there is a significant likelihood that it will be settled out-of-court.
Samsung is currently embroiled in patent lawsuits all around the world including notable suits against Apple. The patents in this case have to do with common technologies used in the mobile market.
