Olive Media Inc., today unveiled the Olive ONE, the first all-in-one high definition (HD) music player. In support of the Olive ONE, the company today also launched a crowdfunding campaign to provide consumers with the opportunity to significantly influence the Olive One development and design outcomes.
Through the crowdfunding site IndieGoGo, Olive welcomes music lovers, app developers and artists alike, to not only contribute to the product financially, but to shape the end-result by suggesting features, voting on them, developing apps for its open platform, and inputting on the long-term product roadmap.
The Olive ONE is a visually stunning touchscreen device that helps people better store, organize, access and enjoy their music at home, and is expected to be offered in summer of 2013, for $399.
Features of the Olive One:
Access to all your music through one simple touch-screen interface
Navigate & play music on your TV via Wi-Fi Miracast. Or use the free iPhone/iPad or Android app.
Audiophile sound quality (Best-in-class 32-bit/384kHz DAC by Burr-Brown and dual HD amplifiers)
Built-in hard disk drive (optional) that turns ONE into your own - subscription-free - Home Cloud. Access your music anywhere in the world.
Open architecture for app developers and artist
Customizable design with fine aluminum and glass materials
Hand-built in San Francisco, USA
The biggest differentiation of Olive ONE is its open architecture. Olive Media created a new hard- and software platform for Olive ONE for a little more than a year. It features the latest wireless technologies (Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band 802.11n WiFi supporting the Direct/Miracast/DLNA standards) and an ARM processor as well as multi-touch capacitive touch-screen technology. There are already the first pre-production prototypes available, and the crowd-funding campaign now allows Olive Media to involve end-customers, app developers and artists in the development process to build Olive ONE to their taste and preferences.
The Olive One is slated to ship in summer 2013 (SDK for app developers already in May).
"Crowdfunding is not the typical modus operandi for an established company,” said Dr. Oliver Bergmann, co-founder and CEO. “However, the idea behind Olive ONE is big, and we believe that the platform will redefine how we enjoy music at home. We need the direct involvement of users, artists and app developers to get there.”
