The Nintendo 3DS should be launching at just the perfect time for the holiday season, reports CVG. UK industry sources informed them that Nintendo is prepping for an October launch of the system. The 3DS release date will be officially unveiled at E3.

Nintendo wants their new handheld to go head-to-head with Microsoft's Project Natal. That's an extremely gutsy move. Natal has had a full year to build up steam, and the advantage of being a product with (potentially) much broader interest than the 3DS. Sunday, October 10 is believed to be a 'front-runner' for a likely launch date.

Keep in mind that this rumor, and all others like it, are to be taken with a big grain of salt and a manful plug of straight vinegar. The 3DS isn't officially launching in October until Nintendo says it is.
