On Wednesday, December 3 (4-8pm), Virgin Founder Sir Richard Branson will unwrap the most high tech music retail environment, at the Virgin Megastore, San Francisco. The droolcool digital gadget at the uptown international party scene will most certainly be the MusiKube Personal Music Guide (PMG).
Virgin Megastore members receive a customized HP iPAQ when they arrive at the store. Consumers scan product bar codes into the 802.11b Pocket PC that connects wirelessly to the MusiKube’s Encyclomedia™, a powerful MS SQL Server database comprised of licensed samples of over two-million songs, album reviews and related content. NOTE: In the future, curtain cell phones will also be able to access the Virgin PMG.
The concept behind the hand held digital experience is to give consumers a personalized and interactive music discovery experience as well as provide real time marketing data for Virgin and their vendors. Virgin Megastore members can access their MusiKube PMG data anytime through the web or when they return to the outlet via the iPaq by scanning in their own personalized bar code.
