Google launches Social Networks Service ala Friendster.
Google released orkut.com on Thursday. It is still in the test phase and membership is by invitation only.
The launch of Orkut comes after Friendster rejected late last year Google's offer to buy the site that has become known as an online venue for hooking up friends of friends.
It also arrives as new social networking sites are launching all over the web, financed by venture capital investments in companies like Friendster, LinkedIn and other business focused Social Networks Analytics tools.
