Sony expands its line of high-end Gadgets with the introduction of the Qualia 017 MD Player and the Qualia 010 Headphones.
The Qualia 017 MD Player will be priced at 189,000 yen (~$1,700,00). The material of the body is brass and it is coated with palladium, which is used for coating luxury watches and fountain pens.
Because it requires a complex process to make, the monthly output will be just 15 units. So Sony can make about $30,000 revenue per month with this luxury Gadget. Basically nothing for Sony, but thats the idea of the Qualia Series, its about image not about making money for Sony.
We reported about Sony Qualia products like the projector called the Qualia 004, Super Audio CD (SACD) systems called the Qualia 007, the Qualia 015, a Trinitron CRT monitor and the ultra-small hand crafted digital camera called the Qualia 016.
Sony also announced a Headset Qualia 010 featuring a wide frequency range of 5Hz to 120kHz. Sony provides a fitting service for customers to match their head size. Price: 262,500yen ($2,400).
