Sony revealed a new Playstation 2 (SCPH-70000 CB) today. We reported last week about the PStwo rumor, back then it was believed the PStwo will be similar to the PSone, but that is wrong.
The new PS2 is not even called PStwo, it is also called Playstation 2. The difference is the new PS2 is super slim with 2.8 cm. (old PS2 measures 7.8cm). Besides being slimmer the new Playstation is also smaller (230 mm (W) x28 mm (H) x152 mm (D) ) . Which means Sony has completely reengineered the playstation 2. One of the differences is the integrated Ethernet port for network gaming.
The new PS2 goes on sale November 1st in Europe and United States and Japan. The price will be $149.
Several hi-res photos are available on WorthPlaying. More info on Yahoo.
I am not quite sure what the benefits are to own a ultra-slim PS2 (email me if you know any good reason).
Update 09/22/04: Read what I4U think about the new PS2.
