Build or Buy Mid-Range Desktop PC?
/* Story Top Left 2010 300x250, created 7/15/10 */ google_ad_slot = "8340327155";

When thinking of getting a new Desktop for the real Geek there is no question to build it from selected components and not buy one of the shelf.

TheTechLounge sent us just a note that they created a part list for a mid-range ($1,500) complete desktop system including monitor and all input devices.
I did a quick check on what a similar system to what TheTechLounge proposes would cost. I got a complete Dell Dimension 4600 system (see specification below) with bigger HD and what i think more important 2 year warranty and at-home service for about the same price.
I for my part would not build a mid-range PC myself. I think it only makes sense to build highly specialized machines or if you are into modding. Mid-range PCs are the focus of the Dell's of this world.

I am currently looking into building or buying a highly optimized Desktop PC for a Graphics Designer (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.). This system requires great 2D graphics performance and fast disks. If anybody has a suggestion here or knows of a recent hardware guide for a 2D optimized PC please email us
